"I wasn't planning on telling people that yet another male Garou had had his paws in my crotch, no."
Big Red Barn(#3420RA)
The barn is built in the old style, a vast three level structure that is greater in height than a mere three stories, actually closer to five. Great wooden posts support the weight of the upper levels and roof, sunk into the hard-packed dirt floor of the first level like a sparse forest of regularly spaced, naked trees. The stalls and flagstones which once were here have been torn out to leave a rather open area where even crinos Garou may roam freely without fear of running into anything but the supports or the walls or the ladder at the back which allows access to the other two levels.
The first two levels are relatively open to each other, the second being only little wider than a catwalk going around all the walls but the front one, which has massive, twenty foot tall doors set into it. The third level is a true second floor except for a place cut out that allowed hay to be tossed down to the ground floor when the farm was actually worked. Now, it is a hayloft where Garou can sleep outside of the house.
Mathias is in the barn, apparently taking a break from the long search of the bawn. He's barefoot and only wears shorts as he kicks at the punching bag in the center. His personal leather bag is on the ground nearby, but is out of the way.
A limping figure pushes the barn door open and hobbles in. No, not limping, so much as walking in a peculiar gait, like that of a sailor. The large, ugly glabro form of Kevin makes its way inside and the ragabash grunts a greeting to the theurge.
Mathias turns from the bag after giving it another roundhouse kick. "Kevin-yuf." he says simply, noting the others form. "I see you've been allowed to leave your holding?" before he takes a step forward, then quickly uses his elbow to hit the bag behind him hard.
Kevin nods. "Were you not there when punishment was carried out? I don't remember who was and who wasn't... I was kind of preoccupied," he says with a grim smile of gallows humour.
Mathias shakes his head. "I do not doubt the capabilities of this sept to punish it's own. There are things I doubt, but that is not one of them. I was out searching the bawn, as I have duty to. Currently, I'm relaxing." relaxing, before he kicks the side of the bag again.
Kevin keeps his grim smile up. "You call that relaxing, do you? Gaia grant I don't see you when you're hard at work," he comments with a hint of acid. "Well, I am now officially a dead man walking. I'm free to move about as long as I don't leave the area, and as long as I show up to play the Judas goat when the tire fire assault happens."
Mathias gives a look over towards Kevin. "Hard at work? Work is not hard when done correctly. When your efforts flow to work, then the work flows back to you, and everything is in it's proper order. Tell me, when they said you were to go with Basil to attack the fire yard, did they say you had to go alone?"
Kevin thinks a moment, recalling the words. "I don't believe so. In any case, I believe Emma, whose job it is to lead the onslaught, has her own opinions on how Basil and I can be best used, and intends to have words with the philodoxes about us. Strong words," he adds, "if I know Emma."
Mathias hmms softly, then looks to Kevin. "Kevin-yuf, it depends on how much you want to live through this. My personal suggestion is to talk with Emma-yuf about Dillen-yuf, and enlist Dillen-Yuf's help for your part of the attack. I am sure, if you call on your friends, that they will gladdly want to join you. It is what a pack is for, to keep every member safe."
Kevin doesn't fail to note the way in which Mathias affords him as well as the others mentioned a '-yuf'. "I am no longer part of a pack," he says with geniune sadness. "Requiem is no more and Snaekolfr is to go his own way soon, if he hasn't already."
Mathias ahhs. "While it is a shame, and something that I wanted to prevent, sure that it would happen...it is offical then. But, that does not change that Dillen-Yuf would help you. Talk to him, and get his help. If you can get him to join your attack, I'll join too, since my word is to Dillen himself and not to Snaekolfr."
"Mathias-yuf," Kevin says in surprise, "you do me a greater honour than I deserve to make such an offer. Make sure that you speak to Emma... or I will, if I see her... so that she may plan the attack to best effect. It's gonna be a doozy," he adds colloquially with a fierce smile. "Biggest fight of my life so far, I'm certain. If we win at all, I'll be overjoyed. If we win without losing anybody I'll die of the happy."
Mathias punches the bag a few times. "It is without honor to throw the life of any garou away, one who still has claws to rend the wyrm and jaws to cleanse the taint of the weaver. If I had found in your heart the taint of the wyrm, I would have put you down myself, or if you had been unwilling to do the duty given to us by gaia, then I would remove you in the hopes that your next life, Gaia would have given you a spine. But, you do not shirk your duty to gaia, and thus are worth more alive then dead."
"All garou are not more equal than others," Kevin points out as he moves over towards the bag, and as Mathias punches it and makes it swing one way, starts whacking it to push it back at the Fang. "It makes sense, little though I like it, for one such as I to be stuck in the front line, or used as a decoy, instead of one with a spotless record like you."
Mathias he just shakes his head as he jumps up about a foot and gives the bag a kick to the side. "You are not disposable Kevin-Yuf, and I would demand that you stop thinking otherwise. There is tommarow and the hope for redemption. If you take that away, the fundamentals of hope, then we have already lost to the wyrm."
"Mathias-yuf," Kevin retorts as he gives the bag a one-two with his fists, "I just had my balls cut off." Stepping back from the bag, he yanks his tracksuit top open, revealing the scarcely-healed wound on his chest in the all too obvious shape of the Charach glyph. "I'm gonna be carrying this round for the rest of my days. As time passes things may be different, but right now, it's kind of hard to take a positive outlook."
Mathias looks at Kevin as he walks on over and just tries to give him a punch in the gut, tucking his knuckles in as he aims to knock the wind out of Kevin. He's actually pretty cold in the way he does it, the rage flowing off him as he speeds the punch up.
Kevin doesn't realise at first what the Silver Fang's intentions are, and when he does tumble to it, he's too slow to block the gut-punch, though he does counter with a fist to the side of Mathias' head as the blow lands. "If you want a fight," the charach grunts as he staggers back a few steps wincing, "just say so..."
Mathias reaches his other hand up to block the punch to his head, the coldness of his actions still surrounding him. He continues at a walk forward before he grabs your crotch and says something softly as he does. Energy flowing through his hand as he calls upon the wyld to help Kevin heal.
Kevin's expression would make a good picture as the Silver Fang theurge's spiritual healing goes to work. Once it's done, he leans against the barn wall, composing himself. "Thank you, Mathias-yuf. I think."
Mathias simply looks at Kevin for a moment before he goes back to the punching bag. "The punch was because you were giving up on yourself, I said not to. The healing was so that you'd stop bitching about it, and get on with your duties. I would suggest not telling people about it, and instead acting like it still hurt for a few more days." That coldness is still in him as he starts on the bag again.
"I wasn't planning," drawls Kevin, "on telling people that yet another male Garou had had his paws in my crotch, no. And for your information, don't confuse my usual cynicism with me giving up on myself."
Mathias gives a simple shrug. "Then, I would suggest droping the cynicism. It does not do a garou good to have that flaw of character." he starts punshing the bag again, decently hard. "Anything else before you go to find Emma and Dillen?"
Kevin snorts. "I am a new-moon. Cynicism comes to me as naturally as giving other garou orders does to you," he responds. "No, I was looking for Vera-rhya as much as anything else, but I see she isn't here..."
Mathias nods. "Go then. You do yourself no favor in staying." he seems to mentally dismiss the other garou as he continues his practice.
Kevin turns and leaves the barn, his walk a good deal more steady than it was when he came in for the first few steps; after which, he remembers to adopt the sailor's gait again.
